HOVER BUTTON

A Hover Button is an animated button that, when clicked, activates a hyperlink. When a visitor "hovers" over the button - meaning, moves the pointer over the button before clicking - the button changes colour or shape. You can even specify a sound that plays when a visitor hovers over or clicks the button ( or both).

By default, hover buttons are colourful rectangular boxes. If you prefer differently shaped button, you can use this Active Element to place text on top of a graphic to turn the graphic into a button. You can even specify a second graphic that appears "on hover" resulting in an impressive "clickable button" effect.

**WARNING**
FrontPage creates the hover button effect by inserting a Java applet into the page. The Java applet is a mini-program written in the Java programming language. The hover buttons appears only to visitors who use Java-capable browsers ( Such as IE 3.0 or later, or Netscape 2.0 or later).

SUBSTITUTION

The Substitution Frontpage Component enables you to display placeholders in your page that replace themselves with bits of information called configuration variables. Configuration variables describe certain details about the page or contain snippets of information that you specify. Similar to the Include Page Component, which includes the contents of another page in your Web page, the Substitution Component includes the value of the configuration variable you choose.

Displaying Standard Configuration Variables

Frontpage maintains a standard set of configuration variables on each page:

AUTHOR - is the user name of the person who created the page.
MODIFIED BY - is the user name of the person who most recently edited the page.
DESCRIPTION - is a description of the page.
PAGE URL - is the current location of the page.
Some Web sites created using the FP Explorer's site templates contain additional standard configuration variables.

How to insert the Substitution Component:
Place the cursor where you would like the component to appear : Go to Insert : Frontpage Components : Double-click Substitution : In the Substitute with list box, choose the name of the configuration variable you want to display : Click OK

**WARNING**
If you use the Substitution Component to display the Page URL configuration variable, the URL that appears corresponds to the computer on which the page is currently located. If you later publish the page on another Web server, the old incorrect URL will remain displayed on the page. To solve this problem, after you publish the Web site, open the Web site directly form the Web server on which the site is published and then open the page displayed the Page URL configuration variable. Click the URL and press the Delete key to delete the Component. Now reinsert the Substitution Component and set it up to display the Page URL configuration variable. ( The same way it was originally done) The correct URL will appear. Save the page to make the change visible to the rest of the Web.

If while looking over your Web site or pages created with Frontpage in the FP Explorer you notice a page with a red triangle next to it, that means that the page contains a problem or a Frontpage Component that is not set up correctly.

Here is how to repair the afflicted component:

  1. In the Explorer, right click the page's icon and choose Properties from the popup menu that appears.
The Properties dialog box will appear, with the Errors panel visible. In the Description box, you find a detailed description of the problem.
  2. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box and, depending on the problem outlined in the Description box, proceed to repair the Frontpage Component.

Depending of the type of Frontpage Component, you may need to open the page, double-click the component to display its associated Properties dialog box, and proceed with the repairs there. Or you may need to perform a task in the Explorer, such as correcting a configuration variable.

After you complete repairs and save the page containing the Frontpage Component, return to the Explorer and choose "View : Refresh" to refresh the Web site ‘s display. The red triangle should disappear.
