Overview:
This document will assist you in moving an existing website and domain to
Allstream.
Getting Started:
Once you have decided to move your website and domain to Allstream, there are
a few steps to take to ensure a painless transition.
-
Verify that your Domain information is current with the INTERNIC. This
is critical, as the INTERNIC must confirm any requests regarding your domain
and website using information in their records. If your contact information
is not up to date, it could result in delays in moving your domain.
- Order your new
Website Hosting Service from Allstream.
-
Make a copy of your exisiting website and save it to your local computer
if possible. For complete instructions on using FTP, please visit
Allstream's FTP Instructions.
- Once your new Allstream Service has been ordered and you have received your
temporary I.P. address, (ie.207.143.241.7) you can move your website to its
new Allstream home.
-
You can also access your website on the Allstream Server with the temporary
IP address. (ie. http://207.143.241.7)
-
When you registered with Allstream, you chose a Domain Administrator's username
and password. Use these to login to your webspace via FTP.
-
Once you have logged in, you will see the following directory structure:

- Enter the htdocs directory and copy your website to the new location.
- Within a few days, you will receive confirmation from the INTERNIC that
your Domain Name has been moved to Allstream, at which point you can start
accessing your site using the domain name, instead of the temporart IP
address assigned by Allstream.
