Bandwidth is a measure of the amount of data that can be transferred over some
medium in a certain amount of time. A 28.8 modem has a bandwidth of 28,000 bits
per second, and a T-1 has a bandwidth of 1,544,000 bits per second. Computer files
are usually referred to in "bytes." A byte contains 8 bits, so when you are doing
bandwidth calculations regarding transfer rates, be sure and multiply by 8 to get
the correct conversion.
At Allstream, we have installed the latest in communication technology. With
our T-3 connections into the Internet, we have made 45,000,000 bits per second
available to our servers.
