Updating the Modem's Drivers
- The very first step you should take in ensuring optimum performance from this modem is to download the
updated driver's from Lucent Technoligies web-site. At the time of publication, the most recent
version of the LT firmware (5.44) was available here:

Troubleshooting Tips
You can also try a couple of modem initialization strings to help the modem maintain
a better connection. To input an init string
- Double click on My Computer
- Double click on Control Panel
- Double click on Modems
- Highlight your modem and click on properties
- Click on connection at the top
- Click on the Advanced button
- You can enter the init strings in the Extra Settings field
A few good init strings to try are the following:
AT&F
ATZ
-v90=0
NOTE: The -v90=0 init string disables the 56K technology on the modem. You will still be ale to connect,
but only at a top speed of 28.8. If this is the case you should download the most recent drivers from
the above link, and remove the init string to see if your connection improves.
