Overview:
This document will assist you in troubleshooting common connection problems with the Rockwell
based HCF winmodem. Rochwell HCF modems are commonly found in IBM and Hewlett Packard Computers.
Modem Information: Installing/Reinstalling
The Rockwell HCF 56K PCI modem has TWO components listed in Control Panel | System | Device Manager .
First there is an HCFmodem listing (which uses the same icon as that of Multifunction Adapters),
which has a sublisting of Rockwell PCI modem enumerator. The second component is under Modems, Rockwell HCF 56K PCI .
There is an entry in Add / Remove Programs for the Rockwell modem which will remove both
of the above mentioned entries. To reinstall, there is one main method.
NOTE: - running a modem detection process will fail and while you can find a
Rockwell HCF 56K PCI in the list to install , it will NOT work .
Reinstalling the Modem:
- Restart the computer.
- Windows will find a PCI Serial Controller and will ask to search for a driver for it.
- The choices are Floppy , CD-ROM and Specify a location.
- Check the Specify box and click Next (or OK) and your're done. It appears that the Cabinet files contain a HCFxx.inf file.
Troubleshooting Connection Problems:
If you are experiencing problems connecting with your Rockwell HCF modem, try the following steps:
Driver Information:
One of the most common reasons the Rockwell HCF modem may have problems connecting
is due to the modem driver installed. We recommending upgrading to the most current modem
driver available.
