Installing the Windows 95/98 Dial-Up Networking Component

Open the Control Panel.
Double-click on Add/Remove Properties.
Click on the Windows Setup tab.
Double-click on Communications.
Check Dial-Up Networking.
Click OK all the way out. If you're prompted for your Win95 disks or CD-ROM, insert them and follow the on-screen instructions.
NOTE: You may see a message saying that a file could not be found. Click OK to continue the installation.
NOTE: This step may take several minutes. Please be patient, even if it looks like nothing is happening after you put a disk in.
NOTE: A Network dialogue box may ask you to provide computer work group names. If it does:
  • Click OK.
  • The Network Identification Window opens.
    • If this is a home computer that's not on a network, you may type anything you want into the "Computer name," "Workgroup," and "Computer Description" fields. You must type something for each field.
    • If your computer is on a Local Area Network, such as an office network, please stop and ask your local network system administrator for information about what to do.
  • Click Close. When copying is complete, click OK.
  • Choose Refresh from the View menu.

Installing Network Components:

Verify the Network Components are installed by opening the Control Panel and double clicking on the Network icon.
If you do not see all of these components, you will have t o click the ADD button. Often you will have to add the TCP/IP Component.
Click OK once you have selected the correct component and you will be returned to the main components window.
Click TCP/IP and click Properties - the TCP/IP Properties window will be displayed. Verify the WINS Configuration.
Click the DNS Configuration tab and verify this screen as well.
Once the installation is complete, click OK and you will be prompted to restart your computer. Restart, and continue with the Configuration Instructions.
