What is IP Relay Service?

Allstream IP Relay is an operator assisted service that enables persons with a hearing impairment (deaf, deafened, hard of hearing) and individuals who have difficulty speaking to make and receive text based calls from their personal computer (PC).

The person using Allstream IP Relay will type his or her conversation to an Allstream IP Relay operator, who then reads the typed conversation to the other party. The Allstream IP Relay operator then types the other party's spoken words back to the IP Relay user.

There is no charge for using the Allstream IP Relay Service to place local using a PC. For wireless Smartphone devices all applicable usage charges will apply and appear on your company's Allstream bill

Allstream IP Relay service is available in both English and French. The IP Relay user will select their language preference when registering for the service.

Calls placed through the Allstream IP Relay Service are entirely confidential. Allstream IP Relay operators are professionally trained and follow a strict code of ethics. No record of conversation content is retained.

Who Can Use Allstream IP Relay Service?

Allstream IP Relay is a service for individuals with a hearing impairment (deaf, deafened, hard of hearing) or people who have difficulty speaking to make and receive text based calls using their personal computer (PC).

Hearing users can place calls to individuals with a hearing impairment (deaf, deafened, hard of hearing) or people who have difficulty speaking by dialing the Allstream IP Relay operator at 1-855-738-3771. The Allstream IP Relay operator will ask for the 9 digit IP Relay number of the person you are calling. When the individual is logged into Allstream IP Relay they will receive a message alerting them of an incoming IP Relay call. If the individual is not logged into Allstream IP Relay the calling party will be given the option of leaving a text message.

 What Requirements are Needed to Use Allstream IP Relay Service?

PC Requirements:

• Internet connection (DSL, Cable, T1, etc)
• Internet browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Apple Safari 4 or greater, Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or greater, Google Chrome)
• Computer

Smartphone requirements:

• Smartphone with QWERTY keyboard
• Web browser supporting AJAX and Javascript

How to Register for IP Relay Service

*Important - you must have Allstream telephone service to register for Allstream IP Relay service

• Go to IP Relay Register >>
• Fill in required information in appropriate fields
• Submit your hearing impaired certificate and signed IP Relay for the Hearing Impaired Service Schedule. Your company must have an active master agreement with Allstream to which this document will be added via email IPRelayAdmin@mtsallstream.com or fax to 1-416-640-5219
• You will be notified by e-mail of your registration status within 24 to 48 hours after receipt of your documentation
• A successful registration e-mail will include your 9 digit IP Relay number and password information

How to Log on to Allstream IP Relay Service

• Go to IP Relay Log on >>
• Enter your access number (9 digit IP Relay number) into the Access Number field
• Enter your password
• Click on "log on"
• You will be taken to the Allstream IP Relay service page and you can begin making calls
